Naman Singh Sapra was the only one who was felicitated as the youngest [8 years] Black Belt
Naman Singh Sapra a student of the St. Pius X School, Mulund (W) started learning karate at the tender age of 4, the age when kids are busy playing or studying. This young resident of Mulund is focused in making a name for himself in the world of Martial Arts.
Naman is a talented piano player and has a merit card for playing "Happy Birthday to You" tone when he was just 4 in Sr. Kg. at Little Angles Kindergarten.
Naman is a very good athlete too. At his school sports he has won Gold in Bunny Hop and a silver in 50mtrs run in December 2005 at the age of 5. In November 2006 at the age of 6 he has won Gold in 50mtrs run and Gold in 100mtrs run. At the age of 7 in January 2008 Sapra again won Gold in 50mtrs run and Gold in 100mtrs run.
Naman's success journey in martial arts begins at the age of 5. Just a few months after he started learning karate, when he was a 10th rank orange belt he won a Bronze medal in the Kata category in February 2005 at the 10th All India Funakoshi Cup Karate Championship. Thereafter there was no looking back. In September 2005 at the 16th Annual World Funakoshi Shotokan National Karate Championship he won Gold in Kumite & Silver in Kata. He also attended a rigorous 5 days training camp held at Khandala (Maharashtra) from 23/12/2005 to 27/12/2005. At the time when he was a 5th rank brown belt he won 6 medals in 3 championships. At the 11th All India Funakoshi Cup Karate Championship in February 2006 he won two Bronze medals in Kata & Kumite each. In February 2006 Sapra again won Gold & Silver in Kumite & Kata respectively at the 20th Annual IGSKA Karate Championship (International Go Soku Ryu Karate-Do Association). In the 12th All India Funakoshi Cup Karate Championship in February 2007 Naman won Gold in Kata & Silver in Kumite. At the time when he was 3rd rank brown belt once again he bagged Gold in Kumite & Silver in Kata at the 18th National World Funakoshi Shotokan Karate Championship in September 2007. At the 3rd Indo-Sri Lanka Goodwill Karate Championship held in November 2007 Naman won Silver in Kumite & Bronze in Kata. He has also attended another 4 days rigorous training camp for black belt at Great Escape, Virar (Maharashtra) from 02/05/08 to 05/05/08. He won Silver in Kumite and another Silver in Kata at the 19th National Funakoshi Shotokan Karate Championship in September 2008 where he was felicitated with Black Belt by the President of World Funakoshi Shotokan Karate Organisation, Mr. Hassan M. Ismail. His Coach Mr. Om Prakash Kanojia is a dedicated person who has taken great efforts training Naman. Right from the beginning when Naman started learning karate till date he picks up Naman & drops him back after the classes.
This is the story of Naman Singh Sapra so far who has created a niche for himself in the world of martial arts & there are many more medals waiting for a place in his collection.
World Funakoshi Shotokan Karate Championship, Recognised by Govt. of India and Indian Olympic Association, organized the 19th World Funakoshi Shotokan Karate Championship at Priyadarshni Sports Complex, P. K. Road, Mulund, Mumbai -80 on Sunday 21st September. It was a National Level Championship. Around 2000 participants from

Naman Singh Sapra bagged 2 silver medals, one in the Kata’s and the other in Kumite. Naman Singh Sapra started learning karate at the tender age of 4. And since then he never turned back. Earlier also he has bagged many medals including Gold, Silver & bronze. “Although I have many gold, silver & bronze medals these 2 silver medals will always be special for me as I have received them on the day I have become a Black Belt holder” says the 8 year old Sapra. His coach Om Prakash Kanojia says the Sapra is his favourite student as he tries never to miss his classes & is very enthusiastic.
Gayatri excelled again by bagging a Gold Medal
Gayatri Iyer started learning Karate at the tender age of 4 at the Kalidas Karate Centre, Mulund under Sensei H. M. Ismail, and President of the World Funakoshi Shotokan Karate Organization (WFSKO).
At the age of 5 in 2006 Gayatri won 2 GOLD Medals in two Karate Championships in the Kata Event organized by WFSKO at the All India Funakoshi Karate Championship in February and September. She won another Gold Medal in the Kata Event and a Silver Medal in the Kumita event in the championship tournament organized by the Thane District Karate-Do Association. In 2007 she won 2 Gold Medals in the Kata and Kumita events in the Championship tournaments organized by WESKO. Gayatri bagged a Gold Medal again in the Karate Championship Tournament organized by the Maharashtra Karate Association in the same year.
In the recent All India Funakoshi Karate Championship held by WFSKO at the Kalidas Sports Complex Gayatri excelled again by bagging a Gold Medal.
In a span of 3 years this talented youngster has bagged 8 Gold Medals and a Silver Medal. The child has blossomed under the able tutelage of Sensei H. M. Ismail and his devoted band of instructors at the Kalidas Sports Complex, Mulund.
Gayatri is amply supported on her homefront,her mother and grandfather being her guide and encourager. Gayatri is very regular in her karate classes and enjoys participating in challenging tournaments which bring out the best in her. She is at present a brown belt holder and aspires for a black belt. The child is a talented all-rounder and is brilliant in studies too. She has won prizes in many inter-school competitions in singing, recitation, Bhagvad Gita Chanting and Elocution. At present she is a third standard student of the Friends’ Cooperative Education Society in Mulund.
