Hon’ble Chief Minister of Karnataka, Shri Yadyurappa visited Vidya _Prasarak Mandal’s Kannada Schools in Mulund East on August 10, 2008.

Hon’ble Chief Minister of Karnataka, Shri Yadyurappa visited Vidya _Prasarak Mandal’s Kannada Schools in Mulund East on August 10, 2008. He was felicitated by a large number of Kannada organisations in Mumbai as well as BJP office bearers and workers based in Mulund.

Speaking on the occasion Ho. Secretary of VPM, Dr. P M Kamath said that it is a formidable challenge to run Kannada Schools outside Karnataka—particularly in Mumbai as economically well to do Kannadigas send their children to English medium Schools or neighborhood Marathi Schools. It is only those who are first generation-learners of poorest of poor Kannada speaking persons working on low paid job in Mumbai patronize our Kannada Schools.

Since children come from distant places it is also necessary to transport them from their homes to school and they are unable to travel by private buses. Hence, it is necessary to provide them inexpensive bus service. He sought help of Karnataka government in this regard.

Dr. Kamath also added that VPM has started the first-ever Kannada School in Airoli, Navi Mumbai. Towards the school building construction, we have borrowed two crores from state Bank of India.

Chief Minister in his speech said that Karnataka government will extend every help to the organisations to maintain their language and culture. He announced Rs. 25 lakhs towards the completion of Airoli School building another ten lakhs towards the Mulund School. He also promised to help in taking up issues, if any, pending with the government of Maharashtra.
